Why Do So Many Choose Dr. Marks and Dr. Burrows for Their Vasectomy Reversal?

This is a summary by author, teacher and microsurgeon Sheldon Marks, MD, about some of the many reasons that so many men from every state in the US and more than 82 countries choose to travel to ICVR for a microsurgical precision vasectomy reversal, when there are so many top vas reversal doctors nearby or cheaper.

I recently spoke to several patients who traveled to us from the East Coast and internationally and asked why they traveled such great distances to our vas reversal only Center. Their answers were consistently the same. One explained “we did extensive research, and there is no question in our mind that the doctors of ICVR will give us the very highest chances for success. We know we are at the right place.”

When I asked about their thoughts on the discount reversal doctors, their thoughts were equally uniform, “each patient will get what they pay for!” They went on to explain that this was “too important to settle for anything less than the very best chances for success.”

Another patient from Florida explained “why go to the student when we can have the teacher!

The secret that really makes us unique

The entire staff of senior professionals here at ICVR understands that it is not about us.  Instead, it’s all about each couple and the dream of fathering children again. We truly care about what we do because we know how important it is for every couple. Look at the little details, and see how each patient is treated before, during and after the vas reversal. Though there are many excellent vasectomy reversal doctors around the country and the world, we are confident that we set the highest standards to provide the very highest level of care and attention-to-detail here at ICVR – the type of care before, during and after that we would want for ourselves (1).

What is the doctor’s vasectomy reversal success rate?
When talking to prospective doctors about their success rates it is important to know where they are getting the success numbers? Are they quoting published success rates from the world’s top experts as if they were their own? Or are they giving their own published success rates? Is this their own unsubstantiated “internal” self review of the past patients, is it a “guesstimate,” or, as we do here at ICVR, our up to 99.5 % vasectomy reversal success rate is actually based on peer-reviewed, published results of many of our patients over years (2)?

I actually heard of one self-proclaimed expert that claimed that his results were “as good as any other top vasectomy reversal center”- a sneaky way of not telling patients what his success rates really are, or that he doesn’t know. One patient told us that a doctor told him that he didn’t look at his own success, as it was not relevant for each patient.

In fact, based on the number of years from vasectomy, we have a graph of 2660 consecutive patients at our center so we can tell all patients with fairly high probability what percent that they can expect to get the vas-to-vas connection with up to a 99.5% success or will require the more complicated epididymal bypass with a 70 to 90% success rate(3).

Here are some other reasons why ICVR is a top vasectomy reversal destination:

-We do not allow doctors-in-training, physician assistants or nurse practitioners to participate in the surgery or patient care,

-Each doctor limits himself to only one vas reversal a day, so that each patient receives the doctor’s full attention to detail and is not in a hurry to rush the next surgery nor is he fatigued from performing earlier surgeries.

-We offer “no charge” sperm banking, just in case, saving patients many thousands of dollars.

-We use mild conscious sedation, so each patient avoids the rare but serious risks of that can be seen with deeper general anesthesia (4,5) and almost all describe no pain afterwards – most in fact don’t even ask for a single Tylenol.

Just as worrisome is the variability and unpredictability when the doctor relies on just a handful of pills or oral sedatives, with no way to know or control how fast or slow they absorb and are metabolized, and if there is too much or not enough.

ICVR is known for precision microsurgery and personalized aftercare, which is so critical to success and which so many doctors don’t offer and don’t understand.
