INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR VASECTOMY REVERSAL

What is the Cost of a Vasectomy Reversal in 2023?

Here at ICVR, the usual vasectomy reversal cost is $12,700 for success rates as high as 99.5%. Many vas reversals by other doctors cost much less, while others can cost much more. The key is to ask what do they give up to be so much cheaper?

The purpose of this page, written by international authority Sheldon Marks, MD, is to explain the cost of a vasectomy reversal in 2023 and what each patient gets for that investment, which varies widely from doctor to doctor. It is important to remember that the goal, after all, is not a vasectomy reversal but is a baby! Cutting corners or doing quickie vas  reversals can work for many men but they may have increased risks and potential complications, including a lower  success rate.

As I was taught by my father many years ago, costs are the dollars paid for a product or service where value is what each person gets for what they paid. Too often people only look only at dollars out-of-pocket and don’t think about what they receive or don’t get in return. They mistakenly think the cheapest is just as good, and incorrectly assume all doctors offer the same results, success and care.

“How much does a vasectomy reversal cost?” is one of the most common questions we are asked. Vasectomy reversal costs can run anywhere from just $800 to more than $80,000 or more. The cost for a microsurgical vasectomy reversal by most leading urologic experts runs from about $8000 to $15,000 with a few as high as $80,000, all for the very same procedure with the similar results. At a recent fertility society meeting, several experts that care for vas reversal failures believe that many of the discount doctors have a lower reversal success and higher rates of complications because of their quickie, high volume approach with many cases in a day, no or minimal follow-up care, the use of older and simpler 1 or 2 layer techniques (that let the doctor go fast) or not having critical support and OR staff. We often hear stories about some doctors that send out surprise bills weeks to months after the reverse vasectomy surgery.

Cost of a vasectomy reversal at ICVR
We offer a fixed, no surprises, all-inclusive price package of $12,700 for a routine, first time vasectomy reversal for fertility with no hidden costs or unexpected fees. There is a higher cost for a more complicated vas reversal, redo vasectomy reversals or vasectomy reversals for treatment of post-vasectomy pain syndrome (PVPS).

Since the doctors of ICVR are considered leading authorities by so many top tier doctors, and we wrote the textbook (1) for other reversal doctors, publish important articles, and teach the classes and courses to other surgeons, every patient can anticipate the very highest chances for vas reversal success, as high as 99.5%  for vas-to-vas connections (2). Many other doctors sadly think that they are doing a good job with an 70, 80 to 90% vas reversal success rate.

This cost for patients is the same at ICVR and does not go up whether the vas reversal takes longer than the routine 2 to 3 hours or even if we find that we need to perform the more complicated and challenging vas-to-epididymal bypass (vasoepididymostomy, VE) on one or both sides.

Each Vas Reversal Here at ICVR Includes:
Free sperm banking and the first year of storage, which saves patients many thousands of dollars (3).
No doctors-in-training are involved with care or perform any portion of the microsurgery. Dr. Marks or Dr. Burrows does the entire surgery from start to finish.
-Each doctor limits himself to one vas reversal a day, so that the surgeon is not under pressure to rush to the next surgeries nor are they fatigued from earlier vasectomy reversals.
-6 months of aftercare included at no additional cost, which is so critical for the highest  vas reversal success rates, which is really what this is all about. Sadly, many doctors don’t even provide or understand the importance of providing regular and long term after care.

Can a vasectomy be reversed? Yes, absolutely, but to know the details it is best to ask the questions. Find out the facts. Understand what makes
